Through a series of articles, this project will highlight the disparities in the education of black and white students in Asheville City Schools. The school district and city are experiencing a decline in the black population. Simultaneously, there is the presence of a gap in academic success between black and white students. Race and teacher relationships are an uncomfortable subject, especially in a city that prides itself on inclusivity and tolerance. However, these articles bring together the words and stories of those looking or solutions and those impacted, in hopes that the conversation of race relations will become easier to conduct. These articles interact with those challenges and possible solutions to better prepare us for those discussions.
